These three destinations are located in the northeastern state of Sikkim, India, and are renowned for their natural beauty, serenity, and cultural significance. Each offers a unique experience, from the bustling streets of Gangtok to the peaceful vibes of Lachung and the panoramic views of Pelling.
1. Gangtok
Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, is a vibrant city nestled in the eastern Himalayas. It serves as the gateway to the state and blends traditional Sikkimese culture with modern infrastructure.
- Altitude: 5,410 ft (1,650 m) above sea level
- Climate: Cool and temperate, with temperatures ranging from 4°C in winter to 22°C in summer.

- MG Road (Mahatma Gandhi Road): The heart of Gangtok, lined with shops, cafes, and restaurants, offering a lively atmosphere.
- Rumtek Monastery: A prominent Tibetan Buddhist monastery with stunning architecture and a spiritual ambiance.

2. Lachung
Lachung is a picturesque town located in the northern part of Sikkim, known for its unspoiled beauty, peaceful surroundings, and proximity to some of the most scenic spots in the region. It lies close to the Yumthang Valley, often referred to as the “Valley of Flowers.”
- Altitude: 9,600 ft (2,926 m) above sea level
- Climate: Cold, with temperatures ranging from -10°C in winter to 15°C in summer.
Highlights:
- Yumthang Valley: Famous for its stunning rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, and hot springs. In spring, the valley is covered with vibrant flowers.
- Zero Point: The last point accessible by road in Lachung, located at a higher altitude, offering magnificent views of snow-covered peaks and glaciers.
- Lachung Monastery: A small but culturally significant monastery offering views of the town and surrounding landscapes.
- Hot Springs: Natural sulfur-rich hot springs in the region are believed to have healing properties.
3. Pelling
Pelling is a charming town located in the western part of Sikkim, offering stunning views of the Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world. Pelling is known for its historical monasteries, lush green landscapes, and waterfalls.

Best Time to Visit:
- Gangtok: Year-round, with the best time being from March to June and September to December.
- Lachung: The ideal time is from March to June (for pleasant weather) or September to December (for snowfall and winter experiences).
- Pelling: March to May and September to December are considered the best months to visit, offering clear views of the mountains.
Travel Considerations:
- Permits: Both Lachung and Pelling require permits for tourists, as they are located in restricted areas. These permits are often arranged by tour operators in Gangtok.
- Accessibility: Gangtok is the most accessible of the three, with well-developed roads and connections. Lachung and Pelling are more remote, requiring longer travel times

Tour Itinerary :
- DAY 1: Transfer from NJP/IXB/SLG to Kalimpong
After being received at IXB/NJP/Siliguri, proceed to Kalimpong which is 70 km away and takes 3 hours approximately. Kalimpong, nestled at 4,125 ft in the eastern Himalayas, is a serene hill station known for its scenic beauty, Buddhist monasteries, and colonial charm. After reaching Kalimpong, check-in at the hotel (Overnight stay).
- DAY 2: Kalimpong City Tour and transfer to Gangtok
Start for Kalimpong city tour covering Deolo Hill, Science Centre, Hanuman Templel, Pine View Cactus Nursery, Golf Course and Durpin Monastery. After sightseeing, proceed to Gangtok (5,410 ft) which is 75 KM drive and takes 3 hours approximately, Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, it’s a popular destination known for its monasteries, orchids, butterflies, and a mix of modern and traditional culture. On arrival, check in at the hotel and stay overnight.
- DAY 3: Gangtok City Tour
Go for Gangtok full day sightseeing (8:30am to 4:30pm) covering Handicraft Center, Bakthang waterfalls, Tashi View Point, Gonjang Monastry, Plant Conservatory, Ganesh Tok, Tibet logy, Chorten Stupa and Banjhakri Water Fall (Overnight stay at Gangtok).
- DAY 4: Tsomgo Lake and New Baba Mandir
After early breakfast,(7:30am) start for a full day excursion to Tsomgo lake (12,400ft) and New Baba Mandir (13,200ft).Pease note Nathula pass (Indo Chinese border) situated at 14,500 ft. is an optional sightseeing point for Indian Nationals only, which is not a part of this package. Special Permit is required for Nathula and is done on extra cost and is totally dependent in the issuance of permit by the Sikkim tourism Dept which is issued on the day of travel only. Valid documents need to be provided seven days prior for Nathula permit. Once the permit is issued the amount is non refundable It is closed for visitors on Monday. Permits may be granted in clubbing basis. Note – Alternative sightseeing provided in case of Tsomgo Lake Permit not issued due to natural calamity or political disorder.
- DAY 5: Gangtok and transfer to Darjeeling
After breakfast (08:30am) Proceed from Gangtok to Darjeeling ( 110kms/ 4hrs drive/ 6730 ft approx). Known as the “Queen of the Hills,” Darjeeling is famous for its tea gardens, colonial charm, and stunning views of the Himalayas. After checking in at the hotel, enjoy a peaceful evening stroll along Mall Road, a popular spot for shopping, relaxing, and enjoying the cool mountain air (overnight stay in Darjeeling).
- DAY 6: Darjeeling city tour
Wake up early in the morning (3:30am) to witness the sunrise from Tiger Hill (2,590 meters/13 KM/45 min). On the way back, visit the famous Ghoom Monastery and the Batasia Loop. Proceed for half day city tour around Darjeeling (09:00 am to 3:30pm) covering The Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda, P.N. Zoological Park (Thursday close), Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (Thursday close), Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee self-help Centre (Sunday closed)and outer view of Tea Garden (Chitrey).
- DAY 7: Darjeeling to IXB/NJP/Siliguri
Proceed from Darjeeling to Bagdogra Airport (IXB)/NJP (Railway Station)/Siliguri (for onward journey (70 KM drive/3 Hours approx).
Know Before You Go
- ID Proof is mandatory for each individual guest at the time of booking, and upon arrival. PAN Card will not be considered as a valid identity proof.
- Please note that the driver might turn off the vehicle’s ACs while driving in hilly areas to optimise engine performance.
- It is recommended that you always carry an umbrella and warm clothes to avoid unexpected rainfall and temperature drops.
- Please note that necessary permits will be required to enter restricted areas.
- Carry back all non-degradable litter such as empty bottles, tins, plastic bags, etc. These must be disposed of in municipal dustbins only.
- Ask for prior permission before taking a photograph of local people.
- Please note that Gurudongmar Lake is at an altitude of 5,425 metres and can cause altitude sickness. It is advisable that you consult with your doctor prior to the visit and take necessary precautions as well.
- Pack a few woollen clothes, even in the summer season, since Sikkim is frigid all year round.
